The EFM Feature

Nashvillians are abuzz with conversation over a Friday night fundraiser for the Williamson County GOP, because the keynote speaker is none other than Massachusetts Gov. Romney.
Rumors abound. Was Sen. Frist first invited to speak? Is there some sort of grudge that Williamson County has against Senator Frist? Did Sen. Frist re-arrange his schedule to participate in the evening after hearing all the excitment about Gov. Romney? What exactly will Sen. Frist say in his introduction?
I talked to a Williamson County GOP member, who said their group was blown away by Gov. Romney’s speech in Memphis at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference. (Frist, the hometown favorite, placed first, and Gov. Romney, a “Yankee with Southern Values” came in a surprising second–over Mike Huckabee, George Allen, and John McCain.)
What’s the real story? I guess the Nashville City Paper said it best today, calling it the “biggest political event in the history of Williamson County.”
This is almost as exciting as my town’s recent Mule Day. At any rate, David and I will be attending Friday night’s event, so we’ll be able to give you a report on his appearance and the atmosphere of the evening.
If Memphis is any indication, Gov. Romney will once again demonstrate his wide appeal.
