From a reader:
Great site. I am curious about this prevailing belief about Rudy expressed by your reader in the Rudy post: “But to me, Rudy stands out much more so when it comes to security, as his record in New York attests to.”
What record? He compassionately helped heal and organize a city after terrorist bombings. But he did not (and its no blight on his record) do anything to improve security and prevent the attack. It seems to me that too many Americans attach their emotional response to 9/11 with Rudy and thus equate him as some kind of national security guru. Has he ever sat on the Federal Homeland Security’s Board, chairing the section on intelligence like Romney has? Has he had to organize an international event surpassed only by the Summer Olympics in scope and logistic complexity and make it safe from terrorists as Romney did with the 2002 Winter Games? Has he governed a state and responded with swiftness and force to perceived threats as Romney did with the recent Britain flight scare? What exactly has Rudy done to make this country safer? I’m confused.
