Forgive me, but how many almost-there-but-not-quite steps are actually in the running for President process? Gov. Romney, for example, has formed an “Exploratory Committee,” but is not considered an official candidate yet. Neither is Rudy Guiliani, who has only filed federal “statement of candidacy” papers. Will Huckabee file federal “thinking about it” papers, Gingrich “please draft me” papers, and McCain “I think about being President in the shower” papers?
If romance had such staggered phases of commitment, we’d never get hitched.
UPDATE: Evidently (surely after reading the above post), Gov. Romney seems he’s ready to take the plunge:
Republican Mitt Romney will formally announce his candidacy for president next week in Michigan, his native state and an important early test for the GOP nomination, campaign aides said Tuesday.
