The EFM Feature

NANCY adds: Charles! It’s bad enough that I was an emotional wreck yesterday. Seriously. Pastor Don had all the veterans in the church stand up–and seeing how many men had served just struck me to the core. Pastor Don asked the kids “Do you know what a veteran is?” and Austin raised his hand and in a soft voice said, “My daddy?”
Technically, I don’t think David would be considered a vet since he’s over there now, but Pastor Don only said, “Amen.” I was in the choir loft, in my ivory robe, when it hit me right in the middle of “Fairest Lord Jesus.” The whole congregation was looking at us sing, when these lyrics got me: “Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, He makes the woeful heart to sing.” I totally, utterly lost it. And not in the pretty, movie type way when the leading lady dabs delicate tears from the edges of their eyes. I couldn’t get out because I was in the middle of the loft…it was awful. I learned later, because I had to hang my head, but many in the congregation were crying along with me. And, remember, we’re Presbyterians.
