I am sifting through some of the articles about “The Speech,” and came across this in Politico by Jonathan Martin (whom I met in Texas):
An aide said that Romney had received a warm phone call from James Dobson and an e-mail from Pat Robertson, a Rudy backer.
The article is interesting for two other reasons as well. It said Gov. Romney had spent the past 24 hours fundraising. This meant, he gave the speech and has been going ever since. Compare this to Fred Thompson’s rather more… relaxed style of campaigning, which sometimes ends at eleven in the morning.
It also said that the “gaggle” of reporters following Gov. Romney has grown as well… (It reminds me of this summer when Ann Romney’s kick off tour in South Carolina was being followed by cars of photographers hanging out their windows trying to get a photo of her… Many of the Presidential candidates don’t get that kind of attention, and she’s a candidate’s spouse!)
Apparently, that was just the beginning.
